A Financial Accountant is responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining accounting records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. They play a crucial role in providing accurate financial information that supports business decision-making and meets statutory reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and other applicable accounting standards
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Process and review journal entries
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Prepare statutory returns and assist with tax compliance
  • Coordinate with external auditors during audit processes
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to management
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls
  • Monitor fixed assets and manage depreciation schedules
  • Assist with cash flow management and treasury functions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional accounting qualification (CA(SA), ACCA, SAIPA, or equivalent)
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards (IFRS/GAAP)
  • Proficiency in accounting software and systems
  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Problem-solving skills and analytical thinking

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in industry-specific accounting (manufacturing, retail, etc.)
