A Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records of a business’s daily transactions. They record financial data, verify documents, reconcile accounts, and produce basic financial reports to ensure the company’s financial records are complete and accurate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process
  • Verify and process invoices, receipts, payments, and other financial documents
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Maintain the general ledger
  • Track fixed assets and process depreciation
  • Process employee expense claims and reimbursements
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
  • Prepare VAT returns and other statutory submissions
  • Generate and distribute basic financial reports
  • Support preparation of financial statements
  • Maintain accurate filing system for financial records
  • Assist with payroll processing when required
  • Implement bookkeeping policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or related field
  • Bookkeeping certification (ICB, AAT, or equivalent) preferred
  • 1-3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic understanding of tax compliance requirements
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Confidentiality and ethical handling of financial information
  • Problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in specific industry accounting (retail, services, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables)
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Understanding of basic internal controls
  • Familiarity with payroll processes
  • Experience with electronic payment systems

  • Customer service skills for vendor/client interactions
