The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has announced its 2025-2026 Graduate Internship Programme, offering valuable opportunities for unemployed South African university graduates to gain work experience related to their qualifications.

About IPID

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is a government body responsible for ensuring independent oversight of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Municipal Police Services. IPID plays a crucial role in maintaining accountability within law enforcement and promoting ethical policing practices.

Available Internship Positions

For the 2025-2027 period (24-month duration), IPID is offering several internship opportunities:

  1. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Internship
    • Reference Number: Q9/2025/34
    • Positions: 2 posts
    • Location: National Office, Pretoria (Human Resource Management)
    • Qualification Requirements: NQF level 6 & 7: Safety Management/Environmental Health
    • Stipend: R89,409 per annum
  2. Human Resource Management Internship
    • Reference Number: Q9/2025/35
    • Positions: 1 post
    • Location: National Office, Pretoria (Employee Health and Wellness)
    • Qualification Requirements: NQF level 7: BSoc Sci: Psychology/Bsych/Bachelor in applied Psychology/Counselling Psychology
    • Stipend: R89,409 per annum

Application Requirements

Interested candidates must note the following requirements:

  • Applicants must be unemployed South African university graduates aged between 18-35 as of the start date of the placement
  • Applicants must not have previous work experience related to their qualifications
  • Application form Z83 (new version) must be fully completed, signed, and initialed
  • A comprehensive, recently updated CV must be included
  • Applicants must submit an affidavit confirming they have not participated in a similar programme before
  • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from SAQA (when shortlisted)
  • Applications must quote the correct reference number
  • Applicants must declare any pending criminal, disciplinary, or other allegations/investigations

Selection Process

  • Due to the large number of applications expected, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted within three weeks of the closing date
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documents before the interview
  • Successful candidates will undergo security vetting, including character assessment, security clearance, qualification verification, and competency assessment
  • Appointments are subject to positive security vetting results
  • Successful candidates will be appointed on a 24-month contract
